A Cottage UP North is located less than 1 mile from the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park where you will find trails for long or short hikes and scenic overlooks. The new pathway to Lake of the Clouds is easier to climb for viewing this lake nestled in the old growth forest and surrounded by wilderness. The Visitor Center offers interesting exhibits and there are special programs and guided hikes offered by the Rangers.
Visit Greenwood Falls just a mile from the cottage. Stop at the Ontonagon Historical Museum for a taste of the history of this copper mining and logging area and take a tour of the Ontonagon Lighthouse. Fall color is spectacular in the Porkies. Don't forget your camera as this area offers wonderful photographic opportunities in all seasons.
WINTER by LAKE SUPERIOR and the PORCUPINE MOUNTAINS
Winter brings lots of snow and the Cottage UP North is right on the snowmobile trail so you can ride from the door. Interconnecting trails lead down towards Bergland and the Lake Gogebic area or you can go east and pick up the Bill Nichols Trail for a ride towards Houghton or even up to Copper Harbor if you wish.
Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park The downhill ski hill in the Porkies offers 15 runs, 4 lifts, a Chalet with a rental shop, and an outstanding view of Lake Superior as you ski down the slopes. Cross-country skiers will enjoy the 23 miles of groomed trails in the Park and skiers can ride the chair lift up to the top and then head out into the back-country on the well marked trails. |
