The sandy shoreline is shallow and a nice spot for wading in the cool, clear water.
A volleyball net is available on request.
Single and double kayaks are available for rent.
The natural wildlife reserve behind the cottage is home to a wide variety of birds including Eagles, Sand Hill Cranes, and Herons. . . . a fun spot for birdwatchers and an interesting trip in a kayak.
Photographers will find outstanding photographic opportunities with fabulous scenery, historic buildings, lighthouses, waterfalls, and wildlife throughout the Keweenaw Peninsula. The Brockway Mountain Drive between Copper Harbor and Eagle Harbor is one of Michigan's most scenic drives. On a clear day, you can see all the way to Isle Royale and often spot a freighter cruising to or from the Soo Locks.
Big Water Rentals is only about 30 minutes from Houghton and Hancock . . . a relaxing spot to vacation while you enjoy activities at Houghton Tech or Finlandia University.
The Big Water Cottage is an ideal location for exploring the Keweenaw Peninsula. Visit the old Quincy Copper Mine, tour the Copper Museum in Calumet, or wander through the Eagle Harbor or Copper Harbor Lighthouse.
