Some but not all of
our Area Attractions.
Enjoy visiting some of these attractions while you are staying at Birchwood Resort.
Whitefish Point Lighthouse is still guiding ships around Whitefish Point and into Whitefish Bay and the Soo Locks. Site of the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald. The general area of Whitefish Point is known as the graveyard of Lake Superior, more vessels have been lost here than on any other part of the lake. Lighthouse Museum is open for tours. Just 10 miles north of the Resort.
The land at Whitefish Point is considered a major attraction. The wide expanse of sand beach with sun bleached driftwood and beach rocks compliment the beautiful Lake Superior South Shoreline. While you may have witnessed an eye opening sunrise at the resort, here is where you come to finalize your day and appreciate all you've experienced. You have a front row seat and an unobstructed view as the sun slowly settles in the western sky. It's a magic time for this color show. There always seems to be a lot of handholding and togetherness as the sun drops into the blue water and night descends. It's always amazing how quiet it gets. The grounds of the Lighthouse are open to the public free of charge.
