Relax in this non-smoking three bedroom waterfront vacation home while you enjoy the many activities the southern Keweenaw Peninsula has to offer. The Cottage Getaway features three bedrooms on the first floor and a loft with two double beds. One bedroom has a queen sized bed, the second bedroom has a double bed, and the other bedroom has bunk beds with a double bed on the bottom and a twin on the top. Two bathrooms with shower on the first floor. The loft on the second floor contains 2 double beds, a pool table, cable TV, and a dart board. Great view of of Portage Lake. Linens, towels, and paper products are provided.
The living area overlooks Portage Lake and has a wood burning stove. Sliding doors lead out to the large deck surrounding the front and side of the house. Lawn furniture outside for relaxing and enjoying the view, and a table and chairs with a BBQ grill for cooking up a great meal. Try out the hammock for the ultimate in relaxation. Only a few steps to the sand beach and lots of water fun. Firepit for your campfire or roasting some hot dogs or marshmallows. Wood available Fishing is great in Portage Lake. You might catch some good sized walleye, northern, or panfish. Bring your boat or fish off the dock. The 2003 Champion Professional Walleye Tournament was held on Portage Lake and many prize walleyes were caught right in front of the cottage.
The Sturgeon River also provides great fishing, hunting, and bird watching with the DeVries Nature Trail in the Sturgeon River Slough just south of Chassell. Hunters will find birds and deer plentiful in the public lands just southwest of Chassell. Great trails for mountain biking and hiking The cottage is only 2 miles from the Portage Golf Course and conveniently located close to Michigan Tech, the Rosa Center, and Finlandia University. Enjoy Houghton and Hancock and all the mining history and historic buildings in the area. Winter brings lots of snow to the Keweenaw Peninsula with a snowmobile trail system that leads throughout the entire Upper Peninsula. Snowmobile rentals in Houghton at Dan's Polaris. Excellent cross country ski trails in Chassell, the Maasto Hiinto Trails in Hancock, and the Michigan Tech Ski Trails. The Swedetown trails in Calumet are only 20 miles north of the cottage. Enjoy downhill skiing at Mt. Ripley in Hancock, only 10 minutes away or try Mt. Bohemia, 45 miles north of the cottage. ICE FISHING! Walleyes and Northerns right outside the front door. The Cottage Getaway is available for spring and fall fishing, color tours, winter fun, and events in the Houghton and Hancock area.
