If you are looking for a comfortable chair where you can sit and relax, enjoy a delicious bowl of soup, ice cream sundae, or mocha latte, check your email using the wireless internet service, or browse 50,000 new and used books, come on in to the 100 year old building that houses the Falling Rock Café and Bookstore.
The Falling Rock Café and Bookstore is centrally located in downtown Munising, close to all the local attractions and the outdoor activities your family can enjoy at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore and Hiawatha National Forest. The café opened in May of 2003. Owners Jeff and Nancy Dwyer left busy professional careers in Florida to move back to the Upper Peninsula where Jeff's family roots originate. They are thrilled that the café has become what they've dreamed it would - a place that feels like home and a place where community gathers and community is enlarged.
Every Saturday evening, there is live music starting at 7 p.m. as well as other scheduled events such as book signings, poetry readings, art exhibits, art classes or other workshops. The menu includes homemade soups and sandwiches, pasties, bagels, quiche, breakfast sandwiches, smoothies, and yogurt parfaits with homemade granola. Daily specials including vegetarian and gluten-free items. You can choose from 16 flavors of ice cream from Jilbert's Dairy made fresh in Marquette, just 40 miles away or enjoy an old fashioned soda from the refurbished 1940's soda fountain.
Once you're in the café and have enjoyed some fresh roasted coffee from the Great Lakes Coffee Company, wander the shelves to find a good book. We specialize in used, out of print, and vintage books as well as new books about Michigan and the local area. The shelves are also filled with items made by local artisans. You might find a beautiful piece of pottery or jewelry for your family member back home or a photo of our amazing local landscapes for your home or office to remember your wonderful trip to the U.P. Don't miss this unique business while you are in the Munising area! While you are there don't forget to ask to read the legend of Falling Rock!
Here is what a travel magazine had to say about The Falling Rock Café and Bookstore.
