The Lake House is a rental cottage located on Portage Lake (map), just 9 miles south of Houghton in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
Enjoy fishing, hunting, boating, swimming, canoeing, kayaking, snowmobiling, downhill skiing or cross country skiing at this year round cottage in Chassell, Michigan.
The Lake House is complete with all amenities. This three bedroom cottage sleeps a total of 6, more if you use the couches. This full kitchen has everything you need including all appliances. There is a great table to gather around and a comfortable living room for relaxing. Cable TV is in the living room. Downstairs there are 2 sleeping areas and a small bar.
During the summer, rentals are by day or week, in the winter there is a two day minimum.
A large yard around the cottage goes down to the lake. At the waters edge, you will find a picnic area with table and chairs so you can sit and enjoy the view, cook your dinner or build a campfire.
There are two restaurants nearby, along with gas and groceries. More shopping and restaurants in Houghton. If you're looking for fresh Lake Superior Whitefish, Trout, Walleye or Perch, stop in at Peterson's Fish Market in Hancock, across from the Quincy Mine Shaft.
The Lakeside Cottage is on the snowmobile trail. Snowmobile rentals for the Chassell area at Dan's Polaris in Houghton and M&M Power Sports in Hancock. The cottage is also close to cross country ski trails.
Chassell is a four season vacationland with something for everyone. Fish and hunt the Sturgeon River wildlife area (during state seasons); boat the Portage Lake area or nearby lakes; canoe and kayak the Keweenaw Water Trail and the Sturgeon River; snowmobile from here to anywhere in the Upper Peninsula; downhill ski at Mt. Ripley with a 423 foot vertical drop; cross country ski at the Chassell Classic or the well known Maasto Hiihto Ski Trail in Hancock, offering ski trails for beginners to experts.
A major casino is located just 19 miles south of the Lakeside Cottage at Baraga.
The Lakeside Cottage is an excellent retreat for people visiting the Houghton-Hancock area. Stay in a lovely peaceful area, yet close to two of the main cities of the Upper Peninsula.
If you plan to visit the Copper Country, stay in Chassell while you enjoy a day or two seeing the sights in the Keweenaw Peninsula.
