Sample Reviews:

"...a pleasant excursion into the challenging world of hunting with a gentleman and a scholar for a guide." Kenneth Lowe, Editor, Michigan Out of Doors

"Every now and again, a classic book reaches the reading public, yet a few years later, it is out of print. Thus it is fine news that North Country Publishing has reissued Lon Emerick's With Stick and String Adventures with Bow and Arrow. Emerick's style is relaxed and friendly, yet so full of truth and valued information. I enjoyed the entire book, but it proved to be his Misadventures that caught my fancy. Kudos to North Country for the return of a fine classic, a book to be savored time and time again." Woods-N-Water News

From the Publisher: North Country Publishing made a decision to re-issue this small classic book after many inquiries about the volume, first published by Avery Studios in 1976. The size and growth of the interest in traditional archery - wood bows and arrows with natural fletching - has been remarkable. There are traditional archery clubs and magazines devoted only to this part of the archery field. The book has not been revised for re-issue, so it forms a true reflection of the early years of traditional archery and the early experiences of the author.

About the Author: Lon Emerick, an archery hunter for over 40 years, appreciates the craftsmanship and natural feel of wooden bows and wood arrows with natural fletching. The author is a long time resident of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan with many hours afield in search of whitetail deer. He brings his knowledge of the sport, love of the northwoods and writing skills from years of university teaching, textbook and article writing to this serious but enjoyable look at tradtional archery.

Excerpted from With Stick and String - Adventures with Bow and Arrow by Lon Emerick:

"By some strange quirk of fate, or perhaps due to a zany temperament, it seems that a higher than average number of peculiar events happen to me while bowhunting or practicing archery. If laughter is the best tonic, then I must have a corner on prescriptions!

Whenever I get to taking archery too seriously, I sit in my den and parade past all my amusing misadventures until I regain my perspective. In Chapter 15, I trace the dimensions of my more hapless experiences...Chapter 16 describes how to miss gracefully and maintain your dignity."

Black/white photos and illustrations. 92 pages, soft cover. $7.00 + $2.00 Shipping charge.
