Enjoy A Wonderful Vacation at Northern Nights Resort on Au Train Lake in the heart of the Hiawatha National Forest, only 12 miles west of Munising in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Open Year Round. Snowmobiling, Cross Country Skiing, and Just Plain Relaxing. Northern Nights Resort on Au Train Lake has 8 modern,
clean and comfortable housekeeping cabins with one, two,
three, or four bedrooms. Although the cabins are fully equipped with kitchens, there are many local restaurants if you want to treat yourself to a fine dinner. Northern Nights has 175 feet of sandy beach front, perfect for sunbathing, swimming and water skiing. Bring your own sports, fishing or ski boat. Our lighted dock has individual bays for each boat. If you can't bring your own, you can rent 14 ft. Mirro-Craft boats and motors by the day or week or canoes for paddling the AuTrain River. In the evening, pull up a chair at our bonfire, chat with other visitors or simply enjoy the peace and quiet of a northern night. Our multi-purpose building contains the office, laundry facilities, recreation room, bait and tackle shop with live bait, minnows and leaches. There is also a small store which carries pop, candy, ice cream, ice, and some necessities.
AuTrain Lake is noted for some of the best pike and walleye fishing in the Upper Peninsula. AuTrain Basin, AuTrain River and Lake Superior are excellent trout, steelhead, pike and perch waters. For a day of fun take a chartered fishing trip on Lake Superior. Visit the many waterfalls, both well known and those which only the most intrepid waterfall fans have seen. The Hiawatha National Forest surrounding AuTrain affords a wide variety of biking experiences. Beginners to experts find biking opportunities along Valley Spur Mountain Bike Route located near AuTrain. Valley Spur takes you on a total of 26 miles of marked bike routes through northern hardwood forest, meadows, hemlock groves, huge white pine, red pine and several small lakes. Bring your bikes and have a wonderful time riding through the forest.
The Grand Island National Recreation Area offers old woods roads and trails running the perimeter of Grand Island with many miles of hiking and biking. Canoe the Autrain River, canoe livery available locally. The slow moving, meandering AuTrain River offers an excellent four to six hour canoe trip for novices and experienced paddlers. Numerous sloughs along the watercourse harbor a variety of wildlife including ducks, songbirds, great blue herons, kingfishers, muskrats and turtles. Birders have an opportunity to walk the song bird trail starting at the AuTrain Lake USFS campground. The songbird trail winds through forest and field, along bog and lakeshore, and includes an observation platform on AuTrain Lake's Buck Bay. Our fall color season is spectacular. View some of the best and most beautiful colors of Fall in the Midwest as you travel through the surrounding Hiawatha National Forest.
The AuTrain area offers excellent deer, grouse and snowshoe rabbit hunting. Besides being noted for its excellent fishing the lake is also known for its duck, and goose hunting. While you are here, enjoy some of these area
attractions: For your December through March enjoyment, snowmobile from your door to over 300 miles of marked and groomed trails within the Hiawatha National Forest and beyond. These trails connect to the over 2,500 miles of trails crossing the Upper Peninsula. Heated work area available upon request. Snowmobile Rental nearby.
After a long day on the trails spend the evening by the gas log fireplace in your cozy cabin. Watch the new snow falling and the forest putting on a new blanket of white. Don't forget the ice fishing for the winter fishermen. It's top notch here at AuTrain for jumbo perch, pike and walleye. The Village of AuTrain has two grocery stores, gas stations, a Catholic Church and restaurants to accommodate your every need. Telephone reservations are held for 5 days pending arrival of your deposit. If you must cancel, deposits are refunded only if your entire reservation time is filled by another party. We accept cash and personal checks Because of our unique cottages with different capacities, we must know the number of guests for each reservation. We recommend that you call us for availabilty and reservations when you have confirmed the total number of guests and the date.
