Boat Rentals for AuTrain Lake

Boat and Motor Rentals . . . Row Boat Rentals - - Pontoon Boat Rentals

Northwoods Resort on the AuTrain- Forest Lake Road offers canoe and kayak rentals for paddling down the AuTrain River and boat & motor rentals and pontoon boat rentals to use on AuTrain Lake. All rentals include Coast Guard approved personal flotation devices.

Northwoods Resort Boat & Canoe Rentals is located 10 miles west of Munising and the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore and 2 miles south of M-28 on AuTrain Lake in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

We have trips from 3 to 5 hours for a nice leisurely paddle down the river. We will take you to the North Bridge, our "take-out spot" where you will leave your car in our parking area, and then go to the South Bridge where we will help you launch your canoe and get you all set-up for your river trip. Just leave the canoe at the north bridge when you finish your trip and your car is right there waiting for you after an enjoyable day on the river.

Our longer trip takes you from the South Bridge to the mouth of the AuTrain River at the Lake Superior sandy beach.

The AuTrain River is a gentle river as it wanders through the Hiawatha National Forest. You will paddle by a few cottages along the river and then enter the wilderness of the Hiawatha National Forest. Keep your eyes open for wildlife as they come down to the water to drink or watch for birds flying overhead. The river passes through a couple sloughs where you might see great blue herons or ducks swimming in the water.

Be sure to take a snack or a picnic lunch and don't forget your camera. If you are going to fish, you will need a Michigan fishing license.

The AuTrain River is the home to Walleye, Trout, Perch, and a variety of other fish. Anglers might like to fish the Steelhead runs in the spring or the Salmon runs in the fall.

We also offer a longer trip on the AuTrain River from the USFS Bridge (wind permitting) or from the South Bridge (Riverside Bridge) to Lake Superior.

This trip passes through the town of AuTrain and under the old Wolkoff Road steel bridge that is on the National Register of Historic Places.

After passing under the bridge, you will paddle the last few feet to the beautiful sandy beach at the mouth of the AuTrain River.

Enjoy a beautiful summer day in the Northwoods with a paddle down the AuTrain River or a boat ride on AuTrain Lake.
