In the spring of 2002, Andrew and Janice Green with their 5 children in tow began planting grapevines on 4 acres of their 470 acre farm. Finding just the right vines that will do the best on shallow soils over fragmented limestone along with the Garden Peninsula's unique microclimate has been a matter of trial and error. Over 30 different varieties of wine grapes have been planted on the site with some showing great promise.
Now, what are we going to do with these grapes? Well, make wine, of course! So in the winter of 2002 a bean-processing barn that was being under utilized became the focus of a 4-year reconstruction project that involved the whole family and many good friends. As the finishing touches are completed in the tasting room stray kidney and soybeans can still be found as a reminder.
The winery and vineyard are part of a working family farm. The Green family raises cattle, hay, corn, rye, and sugar beets. An apple orchard with many older dessert and cider varieties was established in 2003. Threefold Vine's Wine offerings are bottled in the spring after the winter fermentation. We have 5 Red table wines, One White table wine, one Rose, various Honey wines, Fruit wines, and Dessert Wines. Not all wines are available at all times. Some wines are made on a limited basis as fruit is available such as Da White. It is the first of the white grapes from our vineyard and there is a limited supply next year there should be more. Le Rose Jardin is fast becomming a customer favorite as well as Camp 9, a semi-sweet red, Valentines Creek, a Raspberry/Honey sweet wine, Black Bear Jamboree, Strawberry/Honey/Banana sweet wine, and Garden Paradise, U.P.Cranberries from Paradise and Honey. . . a sweet wine. We would like to say a huge Thank You to all those who have been faithful pumpkin customers for the past 8 years. Unfortunately, we are no longer able to to do all the fall activities we have done in the past as the grape and apple harvest is taking up all of our time.
