Upper Peninsula of Michigan
Wilderness and Historical Hiking Tours
www.upmihikingtours.com
Spend a day or two hiking this mighty land between the lakes where the wilderness, geological formations, and historical data of a by-gone era of native peoples, explorers, and settlers all come together to make your experience a memorable combination of exercise, knowledge, relaxation, and appreciation of nature.
Bring your family and friends and just take pictures, listen, and reflect to a time of a much slower era with no phones, radios, video games, texting, and fast pace of the world we live in today. Make this a bonding experience to bring families and friends together to experience the solitude and granular of nature in Michigan’s Beautiful Upper Peninsula. This is the land of over 500 Moose, and Black Bear, Wolves, White Tailed Deer, Beaver, Porcupines, Loons, and Bald Eagles. Hopefully, you get to see some of them.
Concentrating on hiking tours in the Central Upper Peninsula Uncle Ducky Outdoors will provide you with a knowledgeable and friendly guide to make your day in the woods a highlight of your vacation and an even greater appreciation of this land, its history, and awe-inspiring wonders.
Included with our hiking adventures are walking sticks and a light lunch. Guides are very informative and knowledgeable.
McCormick Tract Wilderness
We begin our trek on the banks of the Pesheeke River, that flows in a south easterly direction into Lake Michigamme and continues as the Michigamme River merging with the Brule to form the Menominee River, and empties into Green Bay on Lake Michigan. The trail along this river was used by Native Americans and early Explorers as a transit from Lake Superior to Lake Michigan. But we are crossing the river (on a study bridge) and going north on the White Deer Lake Trail.
As we thread our way between a cliffy headland and along a scrubby stretch of marshy waters for about a little over a mile we begin to ascend a slope and the ambiance of the Great Northern Forest begins. Much of this land was missed by the loggers of the past two centuries when the native white pine was harvested to build the cities of the Midwest. A hardwood forest of maples is also negotiated as we silently follow the trail watching and listening for wildlife along the way. As we trek deeper into the woodlands time slows down and we begin to think of those that came before us and what it was like over 100 years ago

Craig Lake State Park
We also offer guided hiking tours at Craig Lake State Park, Michigan’s most remote state forest. The park contains 6,984 acres with two lakes, Craig Lake and Crooked Lake.
The entire hike around the lakes and through the park is about 7.5 miles. It is a mosaic of streams, lakes, quiet forests, hills, and rock outcroppings. Wonderful opportunities for watching wildlife such as loons and eagles and you just might see the elusive moose that inhabit the area. Located about a 60 minute drive west of Marquette.

Grand Island National Recreation Area
Grand Island is located in Lake Superior, about ½ mile offshore from the town of Munising with transportation by ferry. We begin our hike at Williams Landing and travel on a counterclockwise loop of the southern part of the island. Grand Island is an offshore version of the Pictured Rocks but has not shortage of its own attractions. Craggy cliffs, sandy beaches, Old Settlers cabins, beautiful hardwood forests, Black Bears, White Tailed Deer, Eagles, Beavers, and Loons are all found here if pretty good numbers. The east side of the island loop gives us an excellent view of the Pictured Rocks. This can be a day trip or we can camp overnight. Either way it will be an excellent experience for you and family or friends.
