Lodging at Victoria Cabin, located in the picturesque setting of the mining village that once surrounded the old Victoria Copper Mine in the Western Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Just 4 miles southwest of Rockland and near the West Branch of the Ontonagon River, the town of Ontonagon, the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park, and the North Country Hiking Trail.

Victoria Cabin was built on some of the old foundation of one of the original homes in the village of Victoria, just 1/2 mile from the Old Victoria Restoration Site. The cabin has two bedrooms with 1 & 1/2 baths and an open concept living area with a log interior, a full kitchen, laundry with washer & dryer, and a comfortable living area with satellite TV, VCR & DVD players. Enjoy a relaxing evening sitting around the fire in the wood-burning stove as you read your favorite book or plan your next day's adventures.

Victoria Rental Cabin has one bedroom on the main level that contains 2 double beds and there is a full bath with a tub/shower combination. The other large bedroom is upstairs in the loft and has 3 sets of bunk beds with a double on the bottom and a twin bed on the top. There is a half bath upstairs. The cabin sleeps from 8-12 guests with linens, towels, and paper products provided.

There is a gas grill for outdoor cooking and wood patio chairs on the front porch for relaxing.

Enjoy this delightful area of Ontonaon County. The reservoir for Victoria Dam on the west branch of the Ontonagon River is just a short distance from the cabin. Boat launch or you can fish from the bank for walleye, pike, perch, bass, and brown trout. For the anglers looking for lake trout, whitefish, and salmon, stop by the marina in Ontonagon to arrange a charter fishing trip on Lake Superior.

Explore a section of the North Country Trail that is located just behind the cabin in the rolling hills and enjoy the spectacular view of Lake Superior from the hill behind the cabin. The Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park is 15 miles west of Ontonagon where you will find the interesting Visitor Center, miles of hiking trails, and various tours or presentations by the park rangers. Tour the area waterfalls or enjoy visiting the Township Park in Ontonagon for a day at the sandy Lake Superior beach.

Visit the Old Victoria Restoration site 1/2 mile from the cabin where they are in the process of restoring the old log homes where the miners lived or you can tour the old Adventure Copper Mine in Greenland.

This area was the site of several copper mines, one the Old Victoria, first mined in 1849 and closed in 1921. Many of the copper mines in this area were established on old mine pits that were mined hundreds of years ago by unknown miners. Prowl through the old rock piles for a piece of copper or other mineral. The famed Ontonagon Boulder that rests in the Smithsonian Institute was found in the Ontonagon River, just a short hike from the cabin. History buffs will enjoy the museum in Rockland, the museum in Ontonagon, and a tour of the Ontonagon Lighthouse.

Fall brings outstanding fall color to the area and you can make Victoria Cabin your starting place for a variety of interesting colorful drives or just sit on the porch and enjoy the beautiful color surrounding you.

Victoria Cabin is ideally situated for hunting whitetail deer, bear, or a variety of birds in the public lands of the Copper Country State Forest and the Ottawa National Forest that surround the cabin. Hunting guides are available in the area.

Winter visitors will love all the snow in this area of the Western Upper Peninsula. Victoria Cabin has direct access to snowmobile trail #13 that connects to over 350 miles of groomed trails in Ontonagon County. Snowshoe around the cabin or go downhill skiing or snowboarding at the ski hill in the Porcupine Mountains State Park.
